Johannesburg’s Jazz in the Lights Festival Shines at the Zoo

The City of Johannesburg recently hosted the third edition of Jazz in the Lights at the Johannesburg Zoo, as part of the 33rd Arts Alive programme. The event blended music, culture, and entertainment, creating a vibrant atmosphere for jazz lovers.
A Celebration of Music and Culture
The festival featured an impressive lineup of legendary and emerging jazz artists, including Thandiswa Mazwai, Feya Faku, and Amanda Black. Set against the scenic backdrop of the zoo, attendees enjoyed live performances while indulging in a variety of food stalls and picnic spaces.
Councillor Tebogo Nkokou, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Development, praised the event’s community impact. “This event unites people while uplifting local artists,” he said.
For 23-year-old jazz enthusiast Zanele Sithole, the festival was a dream come true. “As a young jazz lover, this experience was magical,” she shared.
More Than Just Entertainment
Vuyisile Mshudulu, Director of Arts, Culture, and Heritage, highlighted the festival’s role in fostering artistic expression and supporting the music industry. “Beyond entertainment, Jazz in the Lights expands musicians’ audiences and generates employment,” he said.
With its mix of world-class music, delicious cuisine, and an electric atmosphere, Jazz in the Lights 2025 was a night to remember—leaving fans eagerly awaiting next year’s edition.
