PlayStation 5 Slim lands in South Africa — All the launch deals
While some people who had an issue with the weight and dimensions of the original console can now get their hands on a more compact model, those who are not too bothered about the original version’s big size can score a good deal on that console before it disappears from shelves.
Sony’s revised compact PlayStation 5 gaming console, informally known as the PS5 Slim, has been released for purchase in South Africa.
Similar to the original PS5, the Slim is available in two variants — a model with a regular disc drive and a digital-only model.
Both consoles retain most of the internal hardware of their predecessors, ensuring similar performance.
The primary changes are in the design, with both Slim consoles featuring four removable side panels compared to the two panels on the original versions.
Additionally, the Slim consoles are 30% smaller, with the standard PS5 Slim weighing 18% less than the original version and the digital edition weighing 24% less than the original disc-less model.
The digital-only model also offers support for attaching a disc drive post-purchase.
One drawback of the new consoles is that they no longer include a stand for transitioning between horizontal and vertical placement.
Instead, the included stand only supports horizontal positioning, while the vertical stand must be purchased separately.
The standalone Slim consoles are priced in line with the recommended retail prices of the original PS5.
The digital-only version with one controller is priced at R11,999, while the disc drive-fitted Slim model is priced at R13,999.
