GTA VI release date narrowed down
Take-Two Interactive announced an autumn 2025 release date for its highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI video game and reduced its bookings forecast for the current fiscal year as a result.
Take-Two Interactive Software has announced an autumn (spring in South Africa) 2025 release date for its highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI video game. As a result of this announcement, the New York-based video-game giant has reduced its bookings forecast for the current fiscal year. The company now expects bookings to range between $5.55 billion (R101 billion) and $5.65 billion in fiscal 2025, according to a statement released on Thursday.
One year ago, Take-Two shares experienced a surge when the company initially projected bookings of over $8 billion for the year. However, in February, the company revised this forecast to “a little above $7 billion (R127.4 billion).” This adjustment in forecasts is directly linked to the delayed release date of the title from Take-Two’s Rockstar Games division.
Previously, Rockstar had indicated that the game would be released within the 2025 calendar year, aligning with the end of Take-Two’s fiscal year in March. Grand Theft Auto VI is anticipated to become one of the highest-grossing entertainment properties in history, following the success of its 2013 predecessor, Grand Theft Auto V, which has sold a record-breaking 200 million copies, as disclosed by the company.
Reports emerged in late March from the video game site Kotaku, suggesting that Grand Theft Auto VI was experiencing delays. Take-Two’s fiscal fourth-quarter bookings amounted to $1.35 billion (R24.6 billion), surpassing analysts’ expectations. This performance was attributed in part to the success of its Grand Theft Auto titles, as well as its NBA 2K23 game.
Following these announcements, Take-Two shares experienced a decline of almost 2.9%, trading at $142 in after-hours trading.
