Padel is a fast-paced, highly engaging racket sport that has surged in popularity worldwide. Often called “Tennis with walls” or “Squash in the sun,” this dynamic game combines elements of tennis and squash, making it accessible and enjoyable for players of all ages and skill levels.

Padel is a doubles game played on an enclosed court about one-third the size of a tennis court (20m x 10m). The walls are an integral part of the game, allowing players to use them for rebounds, leading to longer and more thrilling rallies. The sport follows the same scoring system as tennis, but its smaller court and unique rules make it a more social and engaging experience.

Padel’s popularity has skyrocketed due to its fast, fun, and inclusive nature. Unlike traditional racket sports, padel is easier to pick up while still offering strategic depth. Here’s why so many people love it:

  • Highly entertaining to play and watch.
  • More social than tennis due to the smaller court size.
  • Ideal for all skill levels, from beginners to professionals.
  • Rallies last longer (60-70% longer than in tennis).
  • Shorter, stringless rackets provide better control.
  • Great workout, improving agility, reflexes, and teamwork.
  • Gender-inclusive, reducing performance gaps between male and female players.

How Is Padel Played?

The game starts with a serve, which must be hit underhand after a bounce and below waist height. The ball must land diagonally across the court. Players can hit shots off the volley, after a bounce, off the wall, or even rebound off the glass. However, a direct hit into the glass walls without first bouncing is a fault.

Scoring System

Padel follows the same scoring structure as tennis:

  • 15, 30, 40, deuce, and advantage.
  • A set is won at six games with a two-game lead. If the score reaches 6-6, a seven-point tiebreaker is played.
Court & Equipment
  • Padel rackets are shorter and stringless, made from carbon fiber or fiberglass, with foam or rubber cores for better aerodynamics.
  • Padel balls are similar to tennis balls but slightly smaller and less bouncy.
  • The walls surrounding the court are key to the game, adding strategic depth.

Padel’s ease of learning, social appeal, and fitness benefits make it one of the most accessible and exciting sports worldwide. Whether playing recreationally or professionally, padel offers a thrilling and inclusive sporting experience.
