World Rugby has officially announced that Sydney will host the final of the 2027 Rugby World Cup, marking a major milestone in preparations for the tournament in Australia.

The governing body confirmed the news on Thursday while unveiling the full tournament schedule. Reports indicate that the final will take place at the Sydney Olympic Stadium, an 80,000-seater venue originally built for the 2000 Olympics.

Sydney last hosted a Rugby World Cup final in 2003, when England triumphed over Australia in extra time. Rugby Australia CEO Phil Waugh, who played in that match, described the experience as the pinnacle of his career.

“I am delighted that this generation of Wallabies will have the privilege of playing in a World Cup final on home soil,” Waugh said. “There is nothing like wearing the gold jersey in front of our passionate supporters.”

In addition to the final, Sydney will host both semi-finals, the third-place playoff, and several knockout and pool-stage matches. Other host cities include Brisbane, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, Adelaide, and Townsville.

The tournament is set to run from 1 October to 13 November 2027, with Australia aiming to deliver an unforgettable World Cup experience on home soil.
