Joseph Dweba, the Stormers hooker, is heading to Exeter in England after securing a contract with the Exeter Chiefs. The 29-year-old is making the move after three seasons in Cape Town, following his start in professional rugby with the Cheetahs.

“I’m excited to join Exeter Chiefs,” Dweba said. “I believe this club has a bright future, and I want to be part of the exciting things ahead.”

Dweba has six caps for the Springboks, having made his debut in 2021. However, he hasn’t played since August 2023 and did not travel to the World Cup. His rugby career also includes stints with SA Schools, the Junior Springboks, and two years in France with Bordeaux Begles.

Exeter Chiefs’ Director of Rugby, Rob Baxter, expressed confidence in Dweba’s impact on the team. “We’re thrilled to have Joseph with us for the long term,” Baxter said. “His experience at international level and his role in set pieces will be valuable to our squad.”

Baxter highlighted Dweba’s potential to become a fan favorite, citing his vibrant personality and leadership. “He brings a lot of experience, but he’s still got plenty of rugby ahead of him. He’ll be an important addition to our team as we continue to develop and aim for higher achievements in the Premiership.”
