Pitso Mosimane Provides Key Advice for Stellenbosch FC’s CAF Clash with Zamalek

Stellenbosch FC are gearing up for their first-ever CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final clash, taking on Egyptian giants Zamalek at DHL Stadium on Wednesday. To prepare for this monumental match, Stellies have enlisted the help of Pitso Mosimane, the former Al Ahly coach, renowned for his success in African club football. Having reached the quarter-finals in their debut season, Stellenbosch FC is facing one of the most formidable teams in African football. Zamalek, the reigning Confederation Cup champions, are a major challenge for the South African side.

Mosimane, widely regarded as one of South Africa’s greatest club coaches, is no stranger to Zamalek. As the former coach of Al Ahly, Zamalek’s rivals, he achieved remarkable success, including winning the CAF Champions League and the CAF Super Cup. Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker seized the opportunity to gain insight from Mosimane, who recently visited Stellenbosch.
“We couldn’t miss the chance to learn from him. He’s coached in Egypt and played Zamalek several times. According to him, he hasn’t lost to them in eight matches,” said Barker. “It was great to hear his thoughts on how to approach these games, particularly regarding the mentality and emotional engagement required.”
Stellenbosch FC may be coming off a recent Betway Premiership loss to Magesi FC, but Barker believes his team is ready for the challenge ahead. “This is a momentous occasion for us as a club. We’ve worked hard to get here and we’re looking forward to it. There’s no reason why we can’t reach the next round,” Barker added.
The team is energized and excited about the opportunity to compete against Zamalek, and with Mosimane’s insights, they are more confident than ever as they aim for a spot in the semi-finals.
“We’ve earned the right to be on the same park as a team as Zamalek. A lot of people may believe we don’t have an opportunity, but our team is built on resilience.” – @StellenboschFC coach Steve Barker ahead of the @CAFCLCC clash against @ZSCOfficial.
