Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu is set to take charge of the Stormers’ game plan as he makes his much-anticipated return to the field this weekend.

The 23-year-old playmaker has shaken off recent injuries, including a shoulder setback, and is eager to lead from the front when the Stormers travel to the UK for crucial United Rugby Championship (URC) fixtures in Wales and Ireland.

“I want to be a mature leader on the field,” he said. “As the flyhalf, your job is to drive the team forward. I work hard at my game, and I’m confident in my ability. Leading by example will be my main focus this year.”

The Stormers have struggled in Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s absence, with first-choice flyhalf Manie Libbok and versatile back Damian Willemse also sidelined. The team relied on full-back Warrick Gelant to ignite their attack, but with Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Willemse returning, the backline could soon regain its attacking fluency.

Currently sitting 12th on the URC log, the Stormers need away victories to stay in the playoff race. With four home games in April at DHL Stadium, they will be pushing for a strong finish to secure a knockout spot.

Feinberg-Mngomezulu is also eyeing further international experience. The young talent could earn more Springbok caps at flyhalf when South Africa faces Italy and Georgia in mid-year Tests, as well as the Barbarians in a friendly.

“The next step for me is to listen more closely and learn from the senior players. Staying humble and focused will be key,” he added.

Feinberg-Mngomezulu is expected to feature when the Stormers take on the Scarlets at Parc y Scarlets this week, marking his return as a pivotal figure in their campaign. His recent Young Player of the Year award at the SA Rugby Awards is further proof of his growing influence, and he’s ready to prove his worth on the field.
