Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams is hoping his double win at the Caf Awards will inspire millions of young South Africans. Williams was named both Men’s Interclub Player of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year at the prestigious ceremony held at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakesh, Morocco, on Monday.

Though he missed out on the coveted Player of the Year award, which went to Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman, Williams still triumphed in his categories, beating strong contenders such as Ahmed Zizo of Zamalek and Andre Onana of Manchester United.

Reflecting on his victory, Williams expressed gratitude for the recognition and the chance to inspire others: “This win will inspire millions of South Africans to believe in themselves, push boundaries, and never forget their dreams are valid.”

He dedicated his success to his family, support staff, and coaches who have shaped his career over the years. “I couldn’t have done this alone. Thanks to my family—my parents, brother, sister, partner, and children. I also dedicate this to all the goalkeeper coaches who have helped me from my youth.”

Williams expressed special thanks to the coaches who mentored him, including Maurice Camelio, Grant Johnson, and André Arendse. “I’m forever indebted to them for moulding me into the goalkeeper I am today,” he added.

Williams’ achievements serve as a testament to his hard work and dedication, offering motivation to aspiring athletes across South Africa.
