Marquez in Red-Hot Form Ahead of Spanish MotoGP

Marc Marquez has reignited the MotoGP world with a stunning return to form, and now he’s eyeing victory on home soil as the championship heads to Jerez, Spain. After dominating the early stages of the season with his new Ducati team, the six-time world champion is determined to keep his momentum going.

With three wins from four races and a clean sweep in the sprint events, Marquez looks sharper than ever. His only misstep came with a crash while leading in Texas, but otherwise, the Spaniard has been relentless, rekindling memories of his title-winning dominance between 2013 and 2019.

The 32-year-old heads to the Spanish Grand Prix with a 17-point lead in the standings over his younger brother, Alex Marquez. He’s no stranger to success in Jerez, with victories in 2014, 2018, and 2019. However, he’s also tasted heartbreak at the Andalusian circuit, suffering a serious arm injury there in 2020.

“This Grand Prix is special for all riders, but even more so for us Spaniards,” said Marquez. “I have good and bad memories here. Last year I came second behind Pecco, and this year, the goal is clear – get back on that podium and fight for the win.”

Marquez’s teammate and reigning world champion Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia is expected to be his biggest threat. The Italian rider has won the last three races in Jerez and finished second in Qatar despite starting from 11th on the grid.

“Pecco will be my main rival over the season because he has the same bike and the experience. But Alex is also riding incredibly well,” Marquez added.

Bagnaia echoed the sentiment, saying, “We turned around a tough weekend in Qatar and made it onto the podium. I’ve had great success in Jerez, and I’m looking forward to returning.”

Meanwhile, Jorge Martin, who was injured in Qatar with broken ribs and lung complications, remains sidelined. Lorenzo Savadori is expected to fill in for him at Aprilia. Spain will host three more MotoGP races this year, including the season finale in November.
