Kaizer Chiefs Coach Nasreddine Nabi Calls for Ruthlessness After Defeat to Cape Town City

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has urged his team to improve their finishing after a disappointing 0-1 loss to Cape Town City in a Betway Premiership match at Cape Town Stadium on Sunday. The defeat marked Chiefs’ fourth loss of the season, leaving them in seventh place on the log, a staggering 15 points behind league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

Nabi Acknowledges Squad Challenges

Addressing the media after the match, Nabi highlighted the need to bolster the squad during the upcoming transfer window. However, he emphasized the importance of supporting the current players instead of criticizing them publicly.

“It’s obvious when you look at the squad that we feel there is a need to strengthen the team, but we don’t want to throw our players under the bus by saying they are not good,” Nabi stated.

He added, “Today, they are in our squad and our team, but every transfer window, we will take the opportunity to strengthen. The club is working hard to find the best opportunities to improve the squad.”

Striker Reinforcements Needed

One of the key areas Nabi is eager to address is the forward line, as Chiefs have struggled with poor finishing in the final third. However, the Tunisian coach insists that simply signing a new striker won’t solve all their problems.

“We don’t feel that the [new] striker can resolve all the issues in the final third. Every player needs to step up, make better decisions, and create more movement to support the play,” he explained.

Nabi stressed the importance of a collective effort, stating, “The striker can add more opportunities and something extra, but it can’t be the sole solution.”

Creating Chances but Lacking a Clinical Edge

Despite generating scoring opportunities, Chiefs have failed to capitalize on them, a recurring issue throughout the season. Nabi lamented the lack of decisiveness in crucial moments.

“We were creating opportunities but lacked good decisions, especially in the last third. When we fail to score, we end up needing to create even more chances. The only thing we can do is go back and work,” Nabi said.

Next Challenge: Stellenbosch

Kaizer Chiefs face a tricky test against Stellenbosch at FNB Stadium on Wednesday. Nabi is determined to see his side become more ruthless in front of goal to turn their season around.

“The focus is on making better decisions and being more composed in critical situations. We need to step up as a team,” Nabi concluded.
