Faf du Plessis’ masterful 87 off 55 balls powered Joburg Super Kings to a crucial seven-wicket victory over Paarl Royals, keeping their SA20 playoff chances in their own hands.

Chasing 151, du Plessis smashed four fours and seven sixes before falling with just 21 runs needed. His dominance at the crease ensured Joburg Super Kings reached the target with 13 balls to spare.

Despite losing Donovan Ferreira late in the innings, Jonny Bairstow (8 off 5) and Leus du Plooy (18 off 16) guided the team home.

The Paarl Royals, missing England’s Joe Root, struggled early and were 80-6 before Dinesh Karthik’s fighting 53 off 39 balls lifted them to 150-9 in 20 overs.

With this win, Super Kings move to third place, overtaking Sunrisers Eastern Cape, and now control their own playoff destiny heading into their final league match.

Meanwhile, the Royals have already secured a top-two finish, guaranteeing them two shots at making the SA20 final on 8 February.
