For players on the DP World Tour, the Joburg Open represents the final opportunity to secure victory on the International Swing. England’s Laurie Canter headlines the field as he aims to clinch the $200,000 bonus and qualification for some of the tour’s most lucrative events later in the season.

On the Sunshine Tour, the Joburg Open is the last chance for players to secure their spots in The Courier Guy Playoffs, a two-tournament series that will determine the season’s top performers. The leading 72 players on the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit will qualify for the Serengeti Invitational (20-23 March), where they will compete for R2.5 million in prize money. From there, the top 50 players will advance to the season-ending DNi Tour Championship (27-30 March), featuring a total purse of R3 million.

The stakes are even higher for the top three finishers in the final Order of Merit, as they will earn DP World Tour cards for the following season. The first-place finisher will also receive exemptions into the Nedbank Golf Challenge, The Open Championship, and the US PGA Championship, along with a R500,000 cash bonus. Second and third-place finishers will earn R200,000 and R100,000 bonuses, respectively.

Daniel van Tonder, currently leading the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit, and Shaun Norris, sitting in second place, will both tee off at Houghton Golf Club in a bid to solidify their positions. Their performances at the Joburg Open could prove decisive in the race for the No. 1 spot.

Additionally, the leading golfer on the Fortress Rookie of the Year standings will be rewarded with a R200,000 cash bonus, adding another layer of intrigue to the tournament.
