George Linde’s Stunning Comeback Propels Proteas to Victory Over Pakistan

Published

on

After a two-year absence from the Proteas team, George Linde made an incredible return in the first T20 International against Pakistan, securing an 11-run victory for South Africa in Durban. Linde’s spectacular all-round performance was the highlight of the match, where he scored 48 off 24 balls and took 4 wickets for 21 runs.

Linde’s opportunity to rejoin the national team came after the Proteas’ Test side was in action against Sri Lanka, leaving several key players unavailable. Despite the pressure, Linde delivered a match-winning performance, helping his side set a challenging total of 183/9. His contributions with the bat and ball were crucial, particularly after the team struggled early in the match.

After being put on the back foot with a quick loss of wickets, Linde steadied the ship with a powerful knock. Alongside David Miller, who scored a blistering 82 off 40 balls, Linde added valuable runs towards the end. His timely hitting, including three sixes in the final over, ensured South Africa finished strong.

Linde’s performance with the ball was equally impressive. He claimed three wickets in a key 18th over, nearly taking a hat-trick, to leave Pakistan reeling. Despite a valiant 72 from Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan, Linde’s efforts helped secure the win, as South Africa successfully defended their total.

Reflecting on his return, Linde revealed a funny incident before the match. “I missed the bus coming to the ground, so I had to get a police escort,” he said, laughing. “I knew I had to deliver for the team today.”

Linde’s return to international cricket was a perfect example of seizing opportunities. With his crucial contributions, he played a key role in helping the Proteas take a 1-0 lead in the series. The Proteas will now look to build on this win as they head to their next T20 matches at SuperSport Park and the Wanderers.
