Scottish pop-rock band Deacon Blue announce first-ever South African tour

Published

on

Deacon Blue, the legendary Scottish pop-rock band, will make their first appearance in South Africa this coming February, with performances scheduled in both Cape Town and Johannesburg.

‘It’s a country that we have wanted to get to for many years, and these shows, both outdoors in beautiful parks, will be really special,’ says lead vocalist Ricky Ross.

Celebrating 35 years since their debut single, ‘Dignity’, Deacon Blue will showcase their extensive repertoire of hits, including chart-toppers, favourites and rare sing-alongs.

Ricky Ross, Lorraine McIntosh, Dougie Vipond, Jim Prime, Gregor Philp and Lewis Gordon will treat audiences to well-loved tunes such as ‘Loaded’, ‘Wages Day’, ‘Real Gone Kid’, ‘I’ll Never Fall In Love Again’, ‘Your Swaying Arms’, ‘Twist & Shout’, ‘Your Town’, ‘The Hipsters’, ‘City of Love’ and many more.

Deacon Blue emerged from the post-punk era, hitting mainstream during the mid-80s.

Notably, their debut album, Raintown (1987), achieved platinum status, and subsequent releases like ‘When the World Knows Your Name’, ‘Fellow Hoodlums’ and ‘Whatever You Say, Say Nothing’ solidified their chart-topping success.

They returned after a five-year hiatus in the 1990s with a clean, euphoric sound that blends rock, pop, jazz, blues, Celtic soul and folk music, and released their subsequent albums, including Homesick (2001), The Hipsters (2012), A New House (2014), Believers (2016), and the chart-topping City of Love (2020).

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to experience Deacon Blue live in South Africa, as they bring their timeless sound and unforgettable hits to the stage.
