Dr Gabriella Nel has carved her name in history as the youngest South African to conquer Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak.

Shortly after celebrating her 25th birthday, Nel reached the summit of Mount Everest on 17 May, adding an incredible achievement to her already impressive resume, as per allAfrica.

Having completed her education at St Andrew’s School for Girls in South Africa, Nel currently serves as a medical doctor in Australia, making her accomplishments even more awe-inspiring.

In recognition of her extraordinary feat, Nel’s alma mater took to Facebook to honour her as an “Old Girl” and laud her for becoming the youngest South African to summit Everest and the youngest medical doctor worldwide to accomplish this monumental milestone.

Nel’s ascent had its share of challenges. During her descent, she encountered frostbite, a dangerous condition threatening her well-being. Fortunately, her team at camp three swiftly came to her rescue, effectively saving her life, as reported by Good Things Guy.

The frostbite affected both her hands and feet, with her right hand classified as grade four and her left hand experiencing damage to grades one and two. Despite enduring such hardships, Gabriella’s indomitable spirit remains unbroken, and she expressed her determination to undertake the climb again in the future, exemplifying her unwavering resilience and passion for mountaineering.

Gabriella generously shared her Everest adventure with Makalu Adventures, providing valuable insights into the highs and lows of her remarkable journey and inspiring aspiring climbers and adventure enthusiasts worldwide.
