Willow Crest Complex Residents Upset Over New Billing System

Residents of the Willow Crest Complex in Noordwyk have reached a breaking point due to incomprehensible bills. On October 4, they took matters into their own hands, blocking the complex entrance and demanding answers from the Board of Trustees regarding their perplexing new billing system.

The complex previously utilised a prepaid electricity system provided by Protea Metering, but on September 1, they switched to a smart metering system. This transition confused residents, as their bills now included charges for water, electricity, and additional levies, contrary to their lease agreements, which specified payments for electricity and rent only.

To compound the issue, their accounts displayed negative balances despite having electricity units from the previous system. The discrepancies in the bills led to increased frustration among residents.

The residents submitted a memorandum outlining their concerns. They demanded a return to the old system or alternative solutions, a detailed explanation of billing line items, no electricity disconnection during issue resolution, the appointment of additional trustees, refunds for incorrect billing, and reversal of reconnection fees incurred during the system transition. They continued to block the complex entrance until their demands were met.

Ultimately, the Board of Trustees arrived to address the residents’ concerns, agreeing to properly implement the new system and ensure clarity in billing details. Protea Metering was also on-site from October 5, assisting residents with billing discrepancies and payment arrangements, particularly for those who may have overpaid.
