In a tribute to the iconic struggle stalwart widely known as the ‘Mother of The Nation,’ William Nicol Drive will become Winnie Mandela Drive next week.

Representing the office of the City of Johannesburg mayor, Mlimandlela Ndamase expressed the city’s belief that Madikizela-Mandela’s legacy will continue to inspire generations, as per Power987. Her immense contributions to South Africa’s path to democracy will be celebrated for years.

Ndamase emphasised the city’s hope that the province will also rename and gazet the remainder of William Nicol Drive, extending through to Diepsloot. This renaming, he noted, is a city-wide honour, recognising Mama Winnie Mandela’s pivotal role in the nation’s liberation.

City of Johannesburg mayor Kabelo Gwamanda will lead the official renaming ceremony, coinciding with the birthdate of Mama Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.

The beloved struggle icon passed away in 2018, leaving an indelible mark on South Africa’s history and ongoing journey toward justice and equality.
