William Nicol Drive Officially Renamed Winnie Mandela Drive
William Nicol Drive is officially Winnie Mandela Drive in honour of the late struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela. According to eNCA, the City Council approved the renaming to commemorate Madikizela-Mandela’s significant contributions to the nation’s history.
City of Johannesburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda officiated the unveiling ceremony, which dignitaries, community members, and admirers of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela attended. During the event, the road’s signage was formally changed to reflect its new name, Winnie Mandela Drive.
