Lotus Gardens Residents in Pretoria Experience Prolonged Power Outage

Residents in the Lotus Gardens area of Pretoria have been facing a significant power outage that has persisted since last night, causing frustration and inconvenience among the community. This outage is part of a series of recent power disruptions in the area, which have adversely affected both residential activities and local businesses.

Unexpected Power Cut Disrupts Little Manhattan

Sinethemba Mthethwa, a resident of Little Manhattan, shared her experience of the sudden power outage that occurred around 22:30 the previous night. Mthethwa expressed her displeasure, stating that the prolonged lack of electricity is unacceptable and greatly hampers residents in carrying out their daily routines.

Jabulani Bhengu, another affected resident, highlighted that this is not the first time the community has experienced power outages, often attributed to cable theft. Bhengu urged the authorities to take decisive action to prevent such incidents in the future, emphasizing the need for reliable electricity services to avoid constant disruptions.

Andile Zungu, a local business owner, voiced concerns over the financial losses incurred due to the outage. He described the impact on his business, noting the spoilage of perishable stock as a result of the power failure, which could potentially jeopardize his livelihood.

In an official statement released by the Tshwane Metro, it was disclosed that the ongoing power outage was a consequence of cable theft that damaged two crucial feeder cables supplying the Lotus Gardens Substation from the Zebra Substation. The metro assured residents that its technical team is actively working to identify and rectify the faults in the network.

“The testing team is diligently engaged in fault finding, while the repairs team stands ready with the necessary materials to address the issues,” stated the metro representative. An estimated timeline for power restoration will be communicated once the faults have been successfully identified.
