A Wattville seamer from Eastern Storm and Actonville Spurs, Martin Khumalo, is set to represent South Africa in the ICC U19 World Cup, which commences on January 19. Cricket South Africa (CSA) selected Khumalo as part of the 15-man squad for the 15th edition of the competition.

Khumalo, an 18-year-old fast bowler, showcased his skills by taking four wickets against Afghanistan U19s in the World Cup U19 tri-series warm-up tournament on December 31. He tore through the Afghanistan top order, including openers Hassan Eisakhil and Wafiullah Tarakhil, as well as Sohail Khan and Faridoon Dawoodzai, finishing with figures of 4/42.

Khumalo, along with Dewan Marais from Alberton, is one of only two Eastern players in the squad, having been part of the U19 set-up for an extended period. In February, Willowmoore Park will host the knockouts, providing Khumalo with an opportunity to play in front of his home crowd if the junior Proteas qualify for the last four and the final.
