Water Crisis: Burst Pipe Affects Suburbs
On Wednesday, October 4th, Johannesburg Water reported a significant 200mm AC pipe burst in Chartwell, impacting various areas. The burst pipe has necessitated water isolation for repair preparations, causing residents to experience low water pressure or no water at all in certain locations as reported by SA People.

- Chartwell
- Broadacres
- Cedar Lakeside
- Cedar Creek
- Kya Sands
- Msawawa informal settlement
- Itsoseng
- Bloubsrand
- Craigavon
The estimated time for completing the repairs is midnight. To mitigate the inconvenience, water tankers have been deployed to affected areas, strategically placed at malls, police stations, entrances to complexes, and clinics.
ActionSA Seeks Details on Water Shifting (Water Shedding)
In response to Minister of Water and Sanitation Senzo Mchunu’s directive for water shedding as an interim measure to address water challenges in some Gauteng communities, ActionSA Gauteng Provincial Chairperson Funzi Ngobeni has written to Rand Water and Minister Mchunu.
ActionSA has requested information regarding the duration of the water shift, an estimation of when water systems will stabilise, identification of affected communities, and the development of a comprehensive schedule outlining the factors contributing to the water crisis and long-term solutions to address water shortages.
