Warning of possible water supply interruption in Rosslyn

The Tshwane metro is set to carry out the planned connection of a newly constructed 110mm water-diameter pipe in Rosslyn East Extension 2 to an existing 160 mm-diameter water pipeline on October 1.

Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the work will be undertaken along the southern side of Hendrik van Eck Street.

“An interruption of water supply will be avoided at all costs, however, it may occur between 08:00 and 18:00 in Rosslyn Extension 2.

“Residents and the business community in the jurisdiction of the City of Tshwane are reminded to continue with their efforts to conserve water,” said Mashigo.

He added that this period of the year is typically associated with increased water consumption, which puts a strain on the water supply system.

Residents are urged to make the following water conservation measures part of their daily normal lifestyle:

– Do not water or irrigate gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 06:00 and 18:00.

– Do not wash vehicles with hosepipes.

– Do not fill swimming pools.

– Instal a low-flow shower head and tap aerators where possible.

– Use a dual-flush toilet cistern.

– Plant indigenous or drought-resistant shrubs in the garden.

– Use a broom instead of a hosepipe when cleaning driveways or patios.

– Collect rainwater to reuse in the garden or wash the car.

– Cover the swimming pool to reduce water evaporation.

– Take a short shower rather than a bath.

– Close running taps while brushing teeth or shaving.

– Regularly check toilets and taps for leaks.

Mashigo said by adhering to water-saving tips, the metro and its residents can contribute immensely to water conservation and safeguard water levels from deteriorating.

“We urge those residents who still have access to water to use water sparingly and refrain from filling their storage tanks to allow the system to stabilise.

“The city apologises to the affected customers for the inconvenience caused,” said Mashigo.
