Ward 65 residents encouraged to gear up for special committee elections

Special Ward Committee Nominations Open in Centurion’s Ward 65

Residents of Ward 65 in Centurion are encouraged to participate in the special ward committee nominations that will run from October 10 to 18. This initiative follows the establishment of 98 ward committees across seven regions of Tshwane.

**Filling Remaining Seats**

Tshwane council speaker Mncedi Ndzwanana has initiated the election process to fill the remaining seats in nine outstanding wards across the city, which lacked the required number of qualified nominees in the initial nomination process. Notably, residents who were successfully nominated earlier this year do not need to be renominated.

**Call for Nominations**

Ndzwanana urges residents and stakeholders to nominate candidates who can contribute meaningfully to enhancing community welfare in their respective wards. Following the special nomination process, all nominees will be verified by the office of the council speaker in collaboration with the Independent Electoral Management Body (IEMB).

**Submission of Nomination Forms**

Residents of Ward 65 can submit their nomination forms via email to [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) or by hand-delivering them to Room B58, Block B, located at the corner of Basden Avenue and Rabie Street in Die Hoewes. **Establishment of Ward Committees**

Ward councillor David Farquharson assured that comprehensive information on how residents can engage with their ward committees will be provided once the committees are officially set up. The Speaker’s Office is expected to release this information upon the completion of the process for all remaining wards.

**Recent Developments**

In a recent announcement by the Office of the Speaker, 933 residents were selected in 98 wards to serve as committee members. Ndzwanana revealed that by the end of July, 19,981 audited voters had participated in the elections conducted across 66 wards in the metro over the final two weekends of July.

**Addressing Objections**

During the elections, the Office of the Speaker received 77 objections, covering various concerns such as venue selection, councillor conduct, logistical issues, and campaign irregularities. Ndzwanana stated that most objections were dismissed as they were deemed not to impact the election results significantly. However, six objections from wards 21, 22, and 99 were upheld, leading to the recommendation of a re-run due to voting process disruptions caused by logistical and administrative failures.
