Flight to Johannesburg Turned Back to London

A Virgin flight to Johannesburg turned back to London. Surprisingly, a Virgin Atlantic flight, designated as VS449, departed from London Heathrow with Johannesburg, South Africa, as its destination. As per AviationSource, the flight, operated by the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner G-VZIG, took off from Heathrow’s runway 09s at 2232 local time. However, shortly after takeoff, it deviated from its course, making a small orbit over Portsmouth before heading south. After a wider turn, the aircraft turned back, returning to London Heathrow at 2341 UK time, just over an hour after its initial departure.

About an hour and four minutes after it arrived in London, G-VZIG once again departed from Heathrow, resuming its journey to Johannesburg. The abrupt U-turn has raised questions about the reason behind it. While the exact cause remains uncertain, it is plausible that the decision was related to a medical emergency or passenger-related issue since the aircraft’s swift redeparture indicates no apparent technical problems. The flight did not transmit the emergency squawk code 7700 during the incident.

AviationSource plans to contact Virgin Atlantic for additional details and comments regarding this unexpected turn of events.
