VIP Protection Unit members were temporarily removed

Eight SAPS VIP Protection Unit members were temporarily removed from their posts. They were part of Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s security detail, as reported by Eyewitness News. They came under the spotlight after the Joburg highway assault surfaced online. Video evidence showed the officers beating and kicking two individuals near Fourways on the N1 highway.

The SAPS swiftly served them with suspension notices. National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola emphasised that the SAPS unequivocally condemns such behaviour, stating that no provocation justifies or validates the officers’ actions. The SAPS aims to restore public trust and maintain professionalism in law enforcement.

Further updates on the investigation and actions taken will follow.
