Victims of VIP Blue Light Assault Allegedly Intoxicated

Allegations against VIP blue light assault victims emerged in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court. Eight VIP presidential protection officers, accused of assaulting three men on the N1 in Gauteng, are seeking bail. They face charges of pointing firearms, reckless driving, malicious property damage, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, assault, and obstructing justice as reported by IOL.

A viral video of the assault circulated on social media.

The judgment on their bail application is expected on Tuesday, August 1. During court proceedings, the defence attorney claimed the victims’ injuries, particularly the one on the ground, were due to alcohol consumption. They denied intimidating State witnesses and argued that the four occupants were drunk, uncertain if it resulted from injuries or alcohol intake. The State plans to refute this evidence during the trial.

The accused officers are named as Shadrack Molekatlane Kojana, Johannes Matome Mampuru, Pomso Joseph Mofokeng, Harmans Madumetja Ramokhonami, Phineas Molefo Boshielo, Churchill Mpakameseni Mkhize, Lesibana Aggrie Rambau, and Moses Fhatuwani Tshidada.

The Action Society, a civil rights group, demands the denial of bail for the officers and immediate termination of their employment with SAPS.
