Violence Erupts in Finetown As Seven People are Shot

Seven people were shot dead in Finetown, Johannesburg after vendors pelted would be robbers with stones after a suspected robbery incident. The incident took place on Saturday evening when a group of men tried to rob a chicken feet vendor. The vendor and other nearby vendors started pelting the robbers with stones, driving them away. However, the robbers returned a short while later with firearms and opened fire, indiscriminately shooting at bystanders and vendors.

The shooting has been condemned by members of the community who are calling for more police visibility in the area.

Gun violence is a problem all over the world, but it seems to be especially bad in South Africa right now. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those affected by this tragedy.
