Urgent Reinstatement Needed for Verona Street in Rosettenville
Verona Street in Rosettenville, specifically the stretch between Prairie and Albert Streets, needs extensive reinstatement. The City of Johannesburg has faced challenges in restoring roads and pavements due to entities like Johannesburg Water (JW) and City Power digging them up for infrastructure work and leaving behind dangerous holes.
Previously, there was a Service Level Agreement (SLA) between the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) and these entities. Still, the respective entity’s responsibility for fixing the infrastructure they disrupted now falls. However, JW has encountered payment issues with their contractor, leading to several unattended holes in the road.

One particular concern is the hole on Verona Street, which poses a significant risk to traffic at this busy intersection. Cars frequently swerve to avoid the hole, risking accidents, or drive through it and risk damaging their vehicles. This issue has remained unresolved since the end of March, requiring urgent action from JW to address this dangerous situation.
In addition to Verona Street, other outstanding reinstatements, such as Prairie Street in Rosettenville, Heks River, and Tafelberg drives in Oakdene, among others in the ward, need to be resolved. Ward 56 Clr Michael Crichton emphasises the need for these issues to be addressed promptly and assures that he will continue to exert pressure to ensure resolution.
JW is aware of the hole on Verona Street, but immediate action is crucial to prevent any accidents or further damage.
