The Van Dyk Park puppy theft suspects have been released. In a recent incident highlighting the area’s vigilance and community spirit, the Community Patrollers Initiative (CPI) apprehended three suspects after a foiled attempt to steal a mastiff puppy on Silverleaf Street in Van Dyk Park. The incident occurred at approximately 13:00 on September 18.

According to CPI chairperson Anton Botha, an attentive neighbour caught the suspects in the act as they attempted to make off with the puppy. Realising they were under watchful eyes, the would-be thieves abandoned their nefarious mission and fled the scene.

“The neighbour notified us. We pursued the suspects and caught them in a veld opposite Boksburg Correctional Services. We took them to our monitoring room where we showed them CCTV footage of them trying to steal the puppy, and they then confessed,” Botha explained.

Subsequently, the CPI took the suspects into custody but faced a challenge when the local Dawn Park Police failed to arrive promptly. Due to this delay, the CPI eventually decided to release the suspects.

Sergeant Nkemeleng Mabula, a spokesperson for the Dawn Park Police, stated that their response occurred only after the suspects had already been released.

Residents and community members with information about this incident are encouraged to contact the Dawn Park Police Station at 011 862 1117 or dial 10111. Community cooperation and shared vigilance can deter criminal activities and promptly address illegal activities.
