M-Net has announced the upcoming production of “White Lies,” an eight-part drama series set to be filmed in Cape Town starting March 6. The show is a partnership between M-Net, Quizzical Pictures, and Fremantle and features local actor Brendon Daniels and British actress Natalie Dormer as reported by IOL.

Daniels has previously starred in “Four Corners,” “Skemerdans,” and “Trackers,” while Dormer is known for her roles in “The Hunger Games,” “Game of Thrones,” and “Picnic at Hanging Rock.”

According to Waldimar Pelser, Director of Premium Channels at M-Net, “‘White Lies’ is an exceptional co-production that showcases Cape Town’s beauty and hidden undercurrents. It will resonate with audiences locally and globally, and cement M-Net’s reputation as a provider of world-class entertainment.

The series was created by Sean Steinberg and written by Darrel Bristow-Bovey, an award-winning scriptwriter. The show’s premise revolves around a murder mystery that explores race, privilege, inequality, and identity, with a strong female protagonist and a diverse cast of characters.

The story is set in Bishopscourt, an affluent neighbourhood in Cape Town, where investigative journalist Edie Hanson (played by Dormer) becomes embroiled in a murder investigation involving her estranged brother’s children as suspects. The series delves into the corrupt political system, the crumbling police force, and the world of extreme wealth in Cape Town.

Dormer expressed her excitement about bringing the series to life in Cape Town and working with an ensemble cast and talented directors. The statement from M-Net also emphasizes the importance of global content partnerships and highlights the exceptionally creative team behind “White Lies.”
