Ugandan Man Steals Mpumalanga Woman's Heart

A 50-year-old Ugandan national, known as Christopher Masereka or Moses Mawaza, has been arrested for allegedly deceiving a 46-year-old former teacher into giving him her pension funds. The suspect and the victim were reportedly in a relationship, and he convinced her to resign from her job and invest her pension money in a business they would run together.

However, he disappeared after receiving the money. The victim realised she had been scammed and reported the case to the police, resulting in theft charges under false pretences and violations of the Immigration Act.

The Department of Home Affairs will also investigate his legal status in South Africa, and additional charges may be added based on previous similar incidents in the province. The suspect has been remanded in custody pending a formal bail application scheduled for October 20. The police encourage other potential victims to come forward.
