Uganda president consults on anti-LGBTQ bill
Uganda’s president will discuss the anti-LGBTQ bill with lawmakers before signing, vetoing, or revising it. The bill includes harsh penalties such as the death penalty for “aggravated homosexuality” and 20-year sentences for “promoting” homosexuality as reported by the SABC News.
Human rights activists and the US government are among those who criticize the bill.
However, Museveni, who signed a law in 2014 that increased penalties for same-sex relations, has not indicated his stance on the new bill.
Same-sex relations are already illegal in Uganda, and lawmakers in other African countries have proposed similar measures.
