R80 Highway Spiking Incidents Resurface
Motorists have been warned of tyre spiking on the Theo Martin R80 highway in the north.
A woman reported her tyres were spiked on Tuesday night, October 4.
Her damaged tyres are visible in a video doing the rounds on social media.
Luckily, she reported she had not been robbed, hijacked or worse, thanks to two men in a Toyota Venture bus who stopped to help her.
In the video, the woman asks the two Good Samaritans to help change the tyre.
Police had not commented at the time of going to print.

What to do when your tyre is spiked:

- If a traffic officer stops you, demand to see their appointment certificate to verify that the relevant traffic authority employs such an officer. If the officer fails to provide the proof, take down their patrol vehicle registration number and report the incident to the nearest police station immediately.
- In case your vehicle is immobilised, remain in your car, lock your doors and seek assistance.
- Do not allow any person to tow your vehicle without written permission.
- Should you see that another motorist has been spiked, kindly stop and give the necessary assistance.
- Avoid driving in hotspot areas at night.
- Do not drive over any object; if you do, do not stop until you reach a safe, well-lit area.
- Take note of vehicles that are following you.
