Tshwane will finally restore Schubart Park

A legal fight between the City of Tshwane and a developer over a project to refurbish the dilapidated Schubart Park complex has seemingly ended. Per IOL, the metro has announced it reached a settlement, which would see at least 75% of the property returned. Tshwane will finally restore Schubart Park to its former glory after years of legal disputes over the deal’s validity with the developer, Tsoseletso Consortium. The City aims to secure back the property. It has plans to refurbish the complex, promoting affordable housing and mixed-use development.

The resolution of the Schubart Park matter is part of Tshwane’s broader efforts to unlock development and benefit its residents through strategic property releases. The City has approved various property transactions, including leasing vacant properties for social housing and developing an early childhood development centre. The Tshwane North TVET College will also receive title deeds for land upgrades and expansion.

The settlement marks a significant milestone in revitalising Schubart Park, a landmark complex built in the 1970s for public servants under the government’s rental scheme.
