Tshwane City Cracks Down on Rogue Officers 2 Arrested

Published

on

Tshwane City is actively addressing the corruption within the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) by taking decisive action against rogue officers. Over the weekend, two metro police cops were apprehended when their colleagues discovered that they were operating outside their designated area as reported by Briefly.

According to TimesLIVE, the officers were found in Diepsloot, Johannesburg, utilising a private vehicle—an act that violated their assigned jurisdiction. Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink expressed concerns regarding the officers’ motives, raising suspicions about their intentions.

The arrest of these officers aligns with a directive issued by acting police chief Basil Nkhwashu last week, aimed at eradicating corruption within the TMPD. Brink emphasised that this order aims to empower residents to combat corruption perpetrated by TMPD members, as Jacaranda FM reported.

Brink stated that residents have the right to request officers to present their appointment certificates to enhance transparency and accountability. Furthermore, the public has been encouraged to document their interactions with TMPD officers. Apart from the two officers arrested during the weekend, the TMPD integrity unit is currently investigating seven officers. Five officers are being scrutinised for operating outside their authorised jurisdiction, while two officers are being probed for using illegal breathalysers.
