Truck Drivers Facing Increased Threat from Hijackers

A truck driver transporting a load of aluminium doors from Johannesburg to Mpumalanga fell victim to a robbery in Brakpan. The incident occurred at approximately 08:00 along the N17 highway near Dalpark. According to Brakpan SAPS, the driver was signalled to pull over by individuals posing as traffic police.

Once the driver had stopped, a man wearing what appeared to be a police uniform and armed with a firearm approached him, claiming that the truck’s license plate was loose. As the driver went to inspect it, he was suddenly confronted by two gunmen who had emerged from a Toyota Hilux parked nearby.

Two additional men exited the Hilux, entered the truck, and drove it away. During the robbery, the hijackers also took two cell phones and R380 in cash.

In a separate incident later that morning, another truck driver was targeted by hijackers. This incident occurred just after 10:00 along the R23. Individuals travelling in a white Opel Corsa forced the driver to stop. They proceeded to restrain him by tying his hands with shoelaces and blindfolding him.

The hijackers then drove off with the driver, later transferring him to another vehicle before eventually dropping him off in Protea Glen, Johannesburg.
