A tremor in West Rand gave residents an unexpected interruption on Wednesday evening, around 21:22, as a pronounced shaking sensation reverberated through various areas.

Gauteng Weather took to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to share that a preliminary reading indicated a magnitude 3.2 tremor, recorded near Krugersdorp at 21:24 on the evening of Wednesday, August 30.

Numerous accounts on Facebook echoed the sentiment that the tremor’s impact extended to regions including Witpoortjie, Roodepoort, Honeydew, and even Randfontein and Discovery.

Residents offered a variety of comparisons to convey the sensation, with some likening it to the sound and feel of a low-flying aeroplane. In contrast, others related it to the vibrations caused by a fast-moving train, resulting in windows rattling.
