Deadly N3 Pile-Up Under Investigation by Transport Department
Transport department authorities in KwaZulu-Natal are still investigating the circumstances surrounding a massive crash on the N3 highway. According to Eyewitness News, the accident involved five trucks, eight minibus taxis, and over 20 light motor vehicles. At least five people died, and scores of others sustained injuries on Monday. As a result, the route was closed, and motorists found themselves stuck in backed-up traffic.
Survivors of the accident were rescued from multiple cars, some with severe bleeding. The cause of the crash is unknown, and an investigation is underway, according to the transport department.
Transport Ministry spokesperson Lwazi Khoza stated, “the investigation into the cause of the accident is still ongoing as various agencies were on the scene.”
The tragic accident happened hours after Monday when Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga oversaw road operations along the Mooi River toll plaza on the same highway.
