Train Services from Mabopane to Pretoria Remain Suspended as Technical Teams Work to Clear Derailment Scene
Train Services from Mabopane to Pretoria are still suspended as technical teams work to clear the Derailment scene. Commuters relying on Metrorail services between these stations and Dewildt and Hercules must seek alternative transportation options as train services in these areas continue to be suspended.
The disruption comes in the wake of a goods train derailment in the early hours of Wednesday morning at the Hercules train line. Metrorail Spokesperson Lilian Mofokeng noted that suspending services is essential to facilitate the technical team’s thorough scene clearing.
Mofokeng emphasised that once Metrorail clears the scene, the infrastructure department will comprehensively assess the train line’s condition before resuming operations.

Metrorail has urged passengers utilising the Mabopane and Dewildt lines to use alternative transport until the rail service reinstates the service. The derailment has caused significant inconvenience to commuters. Metrorail extended its apologies for the disruption.
As investigations into the incident continue, the exact cause of the derailment remains uncertain. Agency technicians are actively probing the incident to determine the underlying factors.
Metrorail issued a statement on Thursday reaffirming the suspension of train services, underscoring that no trains will operate on the Mabopane-Pretoria and Dewildt-Hercules lines until further notice.
