Traffic Alert: Road closures for SPAR Women’s Challenge in Jozi
Johannesburg is preparing for the upcoming SPAR Women’s Challenge scheduled for October 6 at Marks Park, welcoming women of all fitness levels to participate in either a 5km or 10km race.
This annual event, witnessing significant growth in participation, remains dedicated to empowering and motivating women throughout the region.
Since its relocation in 2017 from Wanderers Stadium to Marks Park Sports Club in Emmarentia, the Jozi SPAR Women’s Challenge has experienced a rise in entries and drawn in thousands of enthusiastic spectators.
The race stands out as a highlight of the SPAR Grand Prix series, the sole competition of its kind in South African road running. Female runners have the chance to accumulate points across six 10km races, vying for cash prizes and other incentives.
On the day of the race, participants will assemble at two distinct starting locations:
5km race: Starting point at Umgeni Road, corner of Hill Road
10km race: Starting point at Buffalo Road, corner of Hill Road. To ensure the safety of the runners and facilitate the smooth execution of the event, various temporary road closures will be in effect from 5:00am to 11:00am on race day.
These closures are implemented to prevent participant parking from obstructing the race route and to minimize disruption to residents.
While access for residents will be upheld, it will be restricted as runners follow the designated route.
The affected intersections will include:
- Corner of Judith and Beyers Naude roads
- Corner of Judith Road and Barry Hertzog Avenue
- Corner of Barry Hertzog Avenue and Sabie Road
- Corner of Sabie and Rustenburg roads
- Corner of Barry Hertzog Avenue and Umgeni Road
- Corner of Komatie Street and Greenhill Road
- Corner of Komatie Street and Troon Road
- Corner of Troon and Hill roads
- Corner of Troon and Orange roads
- Corner of Orange and Letaba roads
- Corner of Orange and Illovo roads
- Corner of Orange and Mazoe roads
The event organizers are dedicated to ensuring minimal inconvenience for nearby residents while fostering an energetic environment of community spirit and athletic accomplishment.
