Residents outraged as thousands of litres of water go to waste in Verwoerdpark
Residents of Verwoerdpark have expressed frustration with the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) due to a water meter that leaked for over five days at 14 Erica Street. The leak continued despite reporting the matter to the council with reference numbers, per the Alberton Record. The resident reported the issue on March 24 and contacted the local newspaper for assistance on March 31.
After visiting the address on April 3, a reporter from the Alberton Record found that the municipality still needed to fix the meter. Another visit on April 14 confirmed that the municipality had fixed the leak. Despite following the correct procedures for reporting problems, residents feel they need to receive adequate service from the municipality.
The newspaper emailed EMM on April 4, attaching a video and photos. The Alberton Record has yet to receive a comment from EMM but will publish a response once it is received.
