Thembisa Job Scammer Apprehended by EMPD
The EMPD Anti-Cable Theft Unit officers achieved a significant breakthrough. They successfully apprehended a Thembisa job scammer on August 9, exposing his fraudulent job scheme.
The 31-year-old male suspect faces accusations of preying on job seekers by deceiving them with false promises. The officers discovered him with a laptop, cell phones, and a collection of CVs.
The case’s origins trace back to earlier this year when a CoE MMC reported a case of fraud to the Rabasotho Police Station. The MMC had stumbled upon a disturbing revelation that the fraudster was exploiting her name. The scam artist, posing as her, was deceiving job seekers with the guarantee of intensive EMPD training in the Free State. He coerced the victims into making payments to qualify for the training.
In response to the reported fraud, the EMPD officers wasted no time. They swiftly tracked down the suspect to his residence in the Difateng section. The alleged fraudster was promptly apprehended and placed under custody at the Rabasotho Police Station, pending further legal proceedings.

Authorities believe that their investigations will yield more arrests, as indications point towards the possibility that the suspect was not acting alone in orchestrating this fraudulent scheme.
The impending trial at the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court will see the suspect facing charges related to fraud. The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) lauded the EMPD Anti-Cable Theft Unit officers for their commitment and success in dismantling this deceitful job scam.
This arrest serves as a clear message to individuals who exploit vulnerable job seekers for personal gain. The CoE emphasizes the importance of vigilance and caution when pursuing employment opportunities. Not only do job scams cause financial loss and emotional distress, but they also erode community trust.
In light of this incident, the CoE encourages residents to pursue legitimate employment avenues through credible channels, such as government job portals, reputable recruitment agencies, or direct engagement with established companies. This concerted effort will help safeguard individuals from falling victim to fraudulent schemes and ensure a more secure job-seeking process.
