EMPD Officers Arrest Thembisa Suspect After High-Speed Chase

On May 9, in  Thembisa, officers from the EMPD (Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department) apprehended a 38-year-old male suspect on various charges.

According to Marie Mashishi, the media liaison officer for EMPD, the officers were conducting routine patrols when they noticed a white Nissan LDV (light delivery vehicle) speeding down the road.

“When the officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver accelerated away,” said Mashishi.

The vehicle engaged in unsafe overtaking manoeuvres during a high-speed chase. Eventually, the officers managed to corner the vehicle on Spoonbill Street, Seotlwane Section.

During the interrogation of the driver, it was discovered that he did not possess a valid driver’s license. Furthermore, he resorted to insulting law enforcement officials.

Subsequently, the suspect was arrested and taken into custody at the Rabasotho Police Station.

“The suspect is facing multiple charges, including failing to comply with the instructions of police officers in uniform, reckless and negligent driving, insulting behavior, resisting arrest, and operating a vehicle without proper documentation,” stated Mashishi.

The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court.

As part of the investigation, the vehicle used to commission the alleged crimes was impounded and secured at the EMPD Thembisa Precinct.

The EMPD remains committed to maintaining public safety and upholding the law in Thembisa and surrounding areas.
