The failure of the Eikenhof pump has resulted in a decrease in water flow, leaving residents frustrated

On Water Day (March 22, 2023), some Johannesburg residents cannot access water, highlighting the need for change in South Africa’s water infrastructure, which power cuts and deteriorating pipes have weakened. In addition, recent reports indicate low water pressure, dry taps, and water outages in some areas due to a two-hour pump failure at Rand Water’s Eikenhof system, resulting in a loss of 200 megalitres of water as reported by Eyewitness News.

Johannesburg Water has responded to the outage calls and is working on increasing the number of water tankers in affected areas.

Despite this, residents still need more sufficient water and communication from Johannesburg Water.
