According to Gauteng finance MEC Jacob Mamabolo, the City of Tshwane has requested an extension to pass its 2022/2023 financial year adjustment budget. The request was made in a letter to Mamabolo’s office on Monday, but he has not yet responded. Tshwane city manager Johann Mettler also wrote to the provincial Treasury on Monday, asking for the deadline to be moved from March 24 to March 31 as reported by the Sowetan Live.

The city missed the February 28 deadline to pass the adjustment budget, which determines how much residents will pay for utilities and waste removal.

Mamabolo confirmed that the AG’s report on audit outcomes in Gauteng was deeply concerning, and he plans to hold a provincial clean governance and audit indaba next week to address the issue.
