Telkom’s brand communications and senior sponsorship manager, Martha Nkhwashu, recently announced the launch of ‘stand tall’ – a partnership between Telkom and the South African netball team. The partnership promotes youth engagement and inspires thousands of South Africans to pursue their dreams as reported by the Sandton Chronicles.

Thirteen years after hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup, South Africa is set to open its doors to the world once again for the 2023 Netball World Cup. Fans from all over Sandton joined in on the festivity as Telkom hosted an intimate gathering to announce their partnership with the team. The announcement occurred at Venue Green Park in Morningside on February 3, with no more than 80 supporters in attendance.

Nkhwashu explained how Telkom’s support of netball could serve as a vehicle to rally the youth and inspire them to achieve their goals. “We want everyone to stand tall,” she said.

The four South African netball squad representatives, including team captain Bongi Msomi, shared their stories of how netball changed their lives, inspiring most of their fans still in school. Tshina Mdau, who debuted with the national team in 2020, expressed her excitement for the tournament, saying, “We’re looking forward to showcasing our talents on African soil and seeing the supporters cheer us on.”

During a panel discussion, Msomi reminded participants that everyone plays a vital role in achieving their goals, whether in a team or not. “You don’t have to be in the spotlight to win,” she said.
