TMPD launches crackdown on tankers without permits in Hammanskraal
In response to the cholera outbreak in Hammanskraal, the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) has announced its plan to crack down on water tankers without permits this week.
Following reports from the community about water tankers selling water, the metro cautioned residents against purchasing or consuming water from these unauthorised sources, emphasising that the water is untested and unsafe for drinking. Furthermore, the metro assured the public that they provide drinkable water free of charge to the communities in Hammanskraal, both in formal and informal areas, through their tankers.
The metro conducted a series of tests on the water provided by their tankers, confirming its cholera-free status. This determination was made in response to stool test results that revealed positive cholera cases among residents in the affected areas.

To further protect the community, the metro reiterated its warning against using tap water for drinking and instead advised its use for washing, cleaning, and flushing toilets. In addition, they assured residents that contracted service providers, authorised with letters or permits, would continue to dispense drinkable water to the affected communities. Any individuals selling untested water without a permit will face arrest and prosecution.
The metro urged communities to remain vigilant and cautious, particularly regarding unscrupulous individuals attempting to exploit the water situation in Hammanskraal by taking advantage of desperate people in need of drinking water. They encouraged residents to note the registration numbers of suspicious tankers selling water and promptly report them to the TMPD at 012 358 7095/7096.
With the TMPD’s efforts to regulate water transportation and ensure safe drinking water, the metro aims to combat the cholera outbreak and safeguard the health of Hammanskraal residents.
