Tragedy Unfolds: 56-Year-Old Suspect Survives Suicide Attempt Following Alleged Murder of Four Family Members

In a tragic turn of events on January 22, a 56-year-old man is now hospitalised under police guard, having allegedly committed a suicide attempt following the shocking murder of his elderly parents, wife, daughter, and domestic worker just after midday. The distressing incident began when the suspect fatally shot his 72 and 75-year-old parents upon their arrival at their Bredell, Kempton Park home around 11:30, according to SAPS provincial spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo.

Following the initial act, the suspect then proceeded to another residence in Fairleads, Benoni, where, at approximately midday, he allegedly shot and killed his wife (43), daughter (22), and domestic worker (56) before turning the firearm on himself. The Benoni City Times was on the scene at the couple’s Fairleads home just before 19:00, reporting two women were found shot dead.

Providing further details, Masondo stated that the domestic worker and daughter were pronounced dead at the scene. At the same time, the wife was airlifted to the hospital. Updates from the police on January 23 revealed that the suspect survived the suicide attempt. He and his wife were in the hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The police are investigating four cases of murder and two cases of attempted murder. However, the motive behind these tragic shootings has yet to be disclosed by law enforcement.
