State Denies Gupta Co-Accused’s Request to Work in UAE

The State is pushing back against a request by Anoj Singh, a co-accused in the State Capture case, to amend his bail conditions. Singh, facing charges related to a R400 million Transnet tender fraud involving the Gupta brothers, is seeking permission to work in the United Arab Emirates. He argues that he needs his passport, which was surrendered as part of his bail conditions, for a permanent job offer as CEO of Buy4Rich. However, the State contends that granting Singh’s request poses flight risks, citing the UAE’s past lack of cooperation in extradition cases.

Despite Singh’s proposed conditions, including virtual communication with authorities and a pledge not to oppose extradition, the State deems them impractical. The matter was heard in the Palm Ridge Magistrates’ Court, where the State expressed concerns about Singh’s potential to abscond, referencing previous extradition challenges with the Gupta brothers in the UAE.
